Ph.D., Industrial and Operations Engineering, University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, 2002
M.S.E., Industrial and Operations Engineering, University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, 1994
M.S., Bioengineering, University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, 1994
B.S., Mechanical Engineering, Calvin College, 1989

Over the past 15 years, Professor Feyen has worked and conducted safety-related research in many different fields (construction, aviation, automotive, manufacturing, and the healthcare setting) and on a diverse range of topics (e.g., consumer product design, human performance modeling (including biomechanical and task analyses), industrial accident reconstruction, assistive technologies for persons with disabilities, technical documentation, and safety systems). His research interests span both cognitive and physical ergonomics, particularly with respect to occupational settings. Prior to joining MIE and MEHS here at UMD, Bob was an assistant professor of Industrial Engineering at Purdue University from January 2002 - August 2006. However, unlike his colleagues here in MEHS, he does not hold any certifications or licensures at this time - he has to find one of those round TwoIts first.

Ph.D., Université Laval, (Canada)
M.S., B.S., Polytechnic University of Gdansk, (Poland)

Professor Abou has a practical and fundamental research program focused on Systems Health Monitoring and Safety, Risk Assessment, and Prognostic Analysis of Mechatronics Systems. Current projects include but are not limited to analysis of Mechatronics Systems Health Monitoring, and the study of advanced reliability analysis for complex systems with multistage components and sensors. These multidisciplinary efforts combine research on Functional & Hazard Identification and Analyses, System Safety Analysis, Control and Reliability Centered Maintenance, Effective Prevention Strategies and Technologies in order to anticipate, recognize, and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices affecting people, property, and the environment.

PhD, Industrial Engineering, University of Wisconsin-Madison (2007)
MS, Industrial Engineering, University of Wisconsin-Madison (2002)
BS, Chemical Engineering, University of Minnesota-Twin Cities (1994)

Professor Loushine has over 13 years of professional experience in the occupational safety and health field, which began in 1994 when he was hired by MNOSHA as an Industrial Hygiene Engineer (compliance officer). Six years as an MN OSHA compliance officer and consultant provided a unique learning experience through exposure to a diversity of industries and workplaces entered, and the social interactions with management and workers. It was during this time that he observed an association between organizational and social factors and safety, health, and work performance outcomes, which lead him to graduate school. At the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he studied human factors engineering, ergonomics, sociotechnical systems, quality management, and social-psychology (survey research methodology). While in graduate school, he worked part-time as a Risk Management Specialist with the WI Department of Health and Family Services and held several research and teaching assistant positions. Dr. Loushine’s research interests include the evaluation and design of systems to optimize user performance while attending to their safety, health, and quality needs. Past research projects involved the evaluation of organizational and social factors and their relationship to injury rates in healthcare settings; and investigating the integration of safety and quality management systems in construction.
